COMING PROGRAM

Robert Meeks and Otis Farmer
UTC Engineering Students

These back to back 4.0 engineering students will discuss their challenges and responses. Mr. Meeks will also discuss his experiences as a Rhodes Scholar applicant and his study abroad in the Czech Republic.

Program Chair: Pete Rolston

LAST MEETING Mr. Butch Feldhaus presented "Engineering: The Liberal Arts Degree of the 21st Century". Butch outlined the change in the engineering environment: rapid technological change, downsized flattened organizations, employment growth in smaller companies, global competition, and defense research cuts. His recommendation to the future engineer included: accept personal responsibility for career planning and lifelong learning, maintain and improve basic technical skills, keep abreast of technological changes, develop communication and business skills, develop people skills and stay active in a professional society. Butch challenged Club members to remove the following roadblocks: lack of individual strategy or plan, lack of coherent structure to life-long learning offerings, difficulties in accessing continuing education opportunities, lack of time for professional development, high cost of education, real or perceived lack of employer support.
