| LAST MEETING | John Clark of River Valley Partners outlined
the physical
borders of the southside by TVA on the north, I-27 on the west, I-24 on the south, and the railroad & Central Avenue on the east. The area amounts to 640 acres or 1mile square. The team that is working on this proposal includes Chattanooga Housing Authority, Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprises, Regional Planning Agency and River Valley Partners. A major initiative in this effort is as former Mayor Roberts stated 'Do it different than other urban renewal projects - this is not a condemn and bulldoze effort.' To comply with this statement existing business and residential property owners have been consulted concerning this project. The goal here is to help existing businesses keeping in mind there is room for lot of diversity within this physical area. John presented a proposed land use chart including areas designated for industrial, mixed commercial, residential, trade center expansion (research area), community and educational facilities. It is important to note that this project lends itself to being a catalyst project where projects will spin off other businesses as time progresses.
