Chair: William Gurley |
| LAST MEETING | Mr. Todd Stancombe, Senior Vice President
of Duke Solutions, Charlotte, NC, a Duke Energy company and 1978
graduate of Hixson High discussed the emerging energy services industry.
The coming deregulation of the $300 billion a year electric industry is
already witnessing competitive positioning.
Mr. Stancobe pointed out deregulation will lead to competition that will revolutionize the way energy is produced, priced purchased, and managed. There will be a shift from high cost, limited competition with little innovation and differentiation to a product proliferation through innovation and consolidation of competitors. He made many recommendations for survival and success with an emphasis on offering a bundled price for energy based upon a combination of $/square foot and $/product. He further described a surviving energy supplier in a deregulated market: responds to customers' needs; financial stability/capability; interim solutions in engineering, rate negotiations, stranded cost, municipalization, and pricing; competitive commodity prices and options; price hedging options to protect against price volatility; regional experience; total utility outsourcing for electricity, gas, and engineering support; and creative thinking for unique solutions. |
