protect companies from the costs of environmental miss-steps. A combination of both academic and "hands-on" training programs are used to prepare students in our two-year degree program. The presentation will include a review of curriculum components and training materials and facilities available to train environmental technicians for this growing job market. Chair: Jim Barrott |
| LAST MEETING | Mr. Zia Kabiri discussed Chattanooga State
Technical Community College's non-traditional instructional delivery systems
for manufacturing and building maintenance personnel. He suggested
that economic development in rural areas of the Valley have been due to
difficulty in attracting a well trained work force, access to education
and training for employees due to distance and the perception of site selection
committees that the existing education of the region is low. He cited a
case example of a company that located in Jasper and eventually closed
due to
lack of skilled workers. CSTCC started a non-traditional training approach to overcome these difficulties. Technical courses in maintenance, computers and physics in addition to team building and interpersonal skills were provided via video tapes to eliminate the need to compute long distances. Laboratory sessions are designed around the company's equipment. Test are taken via self paced intervals. Certification is offered after 46 credit hours and an Associate of Applied Science after 72 credit hours. There are currently 116 participants in 8 different companies. Chair: Jim Barrott |
