Hamilton County's Y2K efforts in making sure that there is no interruption in
services.

LAST WEEK____________________________________________________________
Patrick March is the Senior Product Development Manager of TVA Resource
Management, also the General Manager of Hydro Resource Solutions. His
presentation is titled "Communications at Multiple Levels: Using WaterView
in the Tennessee River System." Waterview is an advanced monitoring and
optimization system for hydroelectric plants. Hydropower is the most widely
used renewable energy for the generation of electricity. WaterView is one of
the tool TVA is using to increase economical generation and improve the
environmental compatibility of hydropower system. 88% of the hydro plants
have implemented WaterView, the plan is to have 100% installed and
implemented in another year. WaterView can be accessed via wide area network
or dial in modem. Being able to obtain real time data, comparing the data
with MEL (most efficient load) and MSL (maximum sustainable load),
adjustments can be made, result is efficient energy generation, which means
economical gain. Mr. March spoke of the Hartwell project, where TVA, SEPA,
and USACE are all benefiting from the implementation of WaterView.
