THIS WEEK____________________________________________________________
Richard Ector, CEC member and president of TVIG, will give a slide-show presentation on the Chattanooga-based consortium, Tennessee Valley Infrastructure Group. The company works on small-scale (under 30 MW) power and water projects in Africa and Central America. TVIG is also working with TVA and Oak Ridge National Laboratory to build a Tennessee-based prototype "utility-in-a-box" for developing world communities. Come and hear about opportunities for Chattanooga firms and engineers to participate in these projects.

LAST WEEK____________________________________________________________
Randy Schulte, Interim Dean, and Betty Spaulding, Associate Professor, Business and Information System, at Chattanooga State spoke on CSTCC's new E-commerce Certificate Program. Mr. Shulte stated that E Commerce started with elephant commerce in 300 B. C., and Far East Commerce with Marco Polo, then with the laying of the transatlantic cables, we progressed to the current E Commerce. He credited the engineers on laying the ground work. Local businesses have expressed interest in sharing the internet wealth. Chattanooga State's certificate program was quickly developed to respond to the growing needs of the community. The program is designed to be flexible or customizable depending on the participants needs and experience. The program is made up of many one credit hour topics. There are also additional web and management classes. Ms. Spaulding enticed the audience with the possibilities and enjoyable contents in the topics. She, as an entrepreneur, and a heart's desire type of business person, has been involved with e commerce for two years. She offers her personal business experience and her experience as an information system instructor for over twelve years. She recommended two sites: www.about.com, and www.dogpile.com. She found both sites to be good tools on web commerce and web search.
