Field trip to Nextlec, and Internet ISP and local telephone exchange carrier. The tour will begin at 12:00 and run for thirty minutes. We will meet at the reception desk.
NEXTLEC is located on Amnicola Highway, west of the Wilcox Blvd. Intersection, behind Athens Papers and near the railroad tracks.
There is no lunch plan for the field trip.

LAST WEEK____________________________________________________________
Laurie Edward, Sales Manager with Voyager Online spoke on the current status of network services. She talked about network service provision in general and also web page services. Voyager began its operation in 1996, and is now the largest in our area, which includes Chattanooga, Dalton, and Cleveland. Voyager's business volume has doubled annually. Ms. Edward's job includes national public sales and training. Some of the keys to an effective web page are:
* Change the page often to promote return visits. Often may mean quarterly, monthly, weekly, or even daily.
* Provide useful information.
* Know your market. Think from the perspective of your end user.
In starting a new web page, start out small and simple. Expand and enhance the web page as the target audience becomes clearer. A "front page" sets the tone of your web site and short menus will allow visitors to explore items of interest. There are advantages and disadvantages in linkages to other sites. Some sites may require linkage fee arrangements. Web sites can cost from $100 to $40,000 to develop, and from $20 to $40 per month to maintain, for a 20MB site. The cost would increase for a larger site. The market is growing larger everyday, the surfers range from pre-schoolers to senior citizens.
