Tour of the new Channel 9 facility at 4279 Benton Drive, off Hwy. 58 South. Channel 9 will provide drinks to your own brown bag lunches. We can have the "best turkey sandwich competition". If you are planning to meet for lunch, please arrive at 11:30, otherwise our tour will begin at 12:00 noon. The plan is to divide us into two groups. Both groups will tour the whole broadcasting facility, and participate in a presentation from Jerry Lingerfelt, Channel 9's general manager.

LAST WEEK____________________________________________________________
Dr. Robert Bailey, Dr. Ron Goulet, and Dr. Cecelia Wigal are the UTC Engineering professors responsible for Senior Design Class, Engineering 499, for the year 2000 senior class. Dr, Wigal gave us an overview of the class, while Dr. Bailey provided some detail information of the projects. The two-semester long class is required for all engineering students during their senior year. Students are given multidiscipline team projects. Students were required to submit resumes to apply for their desired project. Prior to the beginning of the Fall semester, Dr. Phil Kazemersky had obtained four industry partners, Roadtec, Synthetic Industries, Steward, and Dupont. Each industry partner provided a design problem. With the faculty's gentle guidance, students will arrive at a solution to dispensing tacky material for road pavers, error checking and rework of products not meeting standard, and alternative use of ashes. Students are required to maintain activity reports, give oral presentations, implement project planning and management. The class also included plant tours, product and process research, subject expert seminars, and other activities that the instructors may find necessary to expand the students knowledge in a project cycle. The class is designed to expose the students to problem base inter-discipline analysis and design (real world), improve communication skill, both oral and written, and to introduce students to the engineering profession through the industry partners. UTC hopes to define other industry partners for 2001 project by next summer.
