THIS WEEK____________________________________________________________
John Van Winkle, City Traffic Engineer, and Adam Tuton, Vice President of
American Trffic System, will present the implementation of Chattanooga's
first camera red light. The camera capture system has been installed at the
Bailey Avenue Bridge. Mr. Van Winkle and Mr. Tuton will explain the
technology and the logistic behind the red light camera. American Traffic
System is a worldwide provider of traffic cameras, toll violation
enforcement systems, and support services. Mr. Tuton has direct experience
with the design and development of photo traffic enforcement cameras,
citation processing systems for speed, red light, rail, and toll
applications in the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.

LAST WEEK____________________________________________________________
Annie Hall, Hamilton County School Board, reported on the status of K - 12
education in Hamilton County. As a proud parent of two graduates of CSAS
(Chattanooga School of Arts and Science), Ms. Hall is confident that
Hamilton County, with the support of other parents and the community, can
eventually match the level of education offered at area private schools.
Ms. Hall says that if the public school system can do the right thing at one
school, namely CSAS, it can do the same for all. She challenged all parents
of Hamilton County to consider five activities:
* See for yourself - visit a public school of your choice, and become
knowledgeable of one school.
* Open doors - volunteer to meet, speak to, and mentor our K - 12 students.
* Advocate - win over people to believe in our public schools again.
* Read - volunteer to read to, or listen to students in classrooms.
* High Expectations - we will not get any more than what we expect out of
the system.
With the upcoming visit to Tyner High School, E Week, and Science Fair, CEC
members and all area engineers will have opportunities to contribute.
