LAST WEEK___________________________________________________________________ George Andrews is a Senior Financial Consultant, and Vice President, as well as manager of operation of the Chattanooga Merrill Lynch office. He started his presentation by commenting on internet trading. In his opinion the current state of internet trading is a form of legalized gambling, and as secure as such. A primary goal of any investment strategy needs to be a long term planning. Mr. Andrews states, in planning, if one has given some thought toward planning, there would be a 75% chance of realizing a given goal, if one documents one's efforts regarding planning, the chance of success is 90%, but without any planning, more than likely, one would not achieve any goal. Furthermore, the best investment plan is a diversified plan. History has shown that a diversified portfolio would achieve the best gain in investment. Investment return is based on asset allocation, timing, and security selection. Mr. Andrews used graphs to demonstrate many of his statements. One of his data shows that a portfolio with 25% in stock has less risk than a portfolio with 100% investment in bonds. US market has risen continuously in the last five years. Korean market has doubled in the last year. Japan market, even with all the Asian flu symptoms, is still in a growth mode. The final analysis is that stock and mutual fund investments are still the sound way to plan for future financial needs.
