LAST WEEK___________________________________________________________________
More than 30 members attended our first meeting at our new meeting location.
Frank Grebowski talked about the pitfalls of E Business. Mr. Grebowski
stated that one major mistake of many E commerce efforts is lack of
planning. E commerce or E business should involve all aspects of the
company. E business should extend beyond a store-front. Citing the
negative publicity of E commerce of last Christmas, where many consumers
suffered delayed shipments or no delivery. The consumers were ready for
this new method of business, overcoming the fear of internet credit card
transaction, but the operation infrastructure was not ready.
It is important as companies undertake this new way of doing business to
plan and implement the first effort well. The initial web presence must be
a good one, since a customer is only one click away from your competitor.
Many brick and mortar companies may think the entry to E business is a web
page. The web page may generate large amount of activities. The initial
activities can then demand more activities downstream. Lack of planning can
lead to chaos. A simple web page can lead to expenditures that was not
planned.
Mr. Grebowski spoke about strategic issues, technical issues, supply chain
issues, and organization issues that should be involved in the planning of
an E business. A well planned E presence can become a perfect opportunity
to examine and redefine the flow of information, personnel, and operation in
your company.
