THIS WEEK__________________________________________________________________
Ed Chapin will present CHATTANOOGA.COMmunity project. This is a new project
that Ed has been pursuing. It is a different approach to a community site
serving as a link to the greater Chattanooga businesses, organizations, and
community services. Ed will also share his insights on where the Internet
appears to be going in the next three years, and how CEC can use the
Internet, as well as changes to the CEC web site, and discuss possible
future changes.

LAST WEEK___________________________________________________________________
Ray Childers, CEO of Chattanooga Manufacturing Association, presented on the
efforts of CMA.
CMA was founded in 1902. It is the oldest manufacturing association in the
United States. CMA founder, Captain C. D. Mitchell, was also instrumental
in the establishment of the National Association of Manufacturers. The
association was formed for the purpose of promoting the general interests of
local manufacturers. The initial focus of the Association was on obtaining
favourable freight rates for shipments of products made in Chattanooga, and
has now expanded into many other issues that concern members of the
association:
* Promote Education - CMA is involved in curriculum discussions in the
various counties' K -12 education system, Chattanooga State, and UTC.
* Workforce Investment Act - CMA is staying abreast of the funding changes
for workforce training.
* Proposed Riverfront Parkway changes - CMA is concerned with the affects on
the traffic flow for some of the manufacturing companies located on Amnicola
Highway.
* Recent Tennessee American Water Company issue - CMA conducted independent
studies and made them available to members and city officials.
* OSHA Ergonomics Program Standard - CMA is studying the document
extensively to be able to lobby on behalf of its members.
