NEXT MEETING
_________________________________________________________Monday, April 16, 12:00 noon
Cellar Restaurant at Union Square
Downtown, Chattanooga
TOPIC: UTC Senior Design Project – A Facility for Testing Asphalt Paving Screeds
The asphalt pavers produced by Roadtec Inc. consist of a screed that applies asphalt to the roadway and a tractor that powers the screed. While Roadtec manufactures the tractors at its Chattanooga facility, the screeds are purchased from another source. Currently, the functional operation of the screeds is not tested until the screeds are mated with their respective tractors at the end of the tractor manufacture cycle. These tests do not occur because Roadtec has no method of testing the operation of the screed prior to joining it to the tractor. A team of UTC senior engineering students has undertaken the design such a test facility. The test stand will power the screed and verify the screed’s functional operation prior to its connection to the tractor.
At their presentation to us this Monday, "Roadtec" team members Jeffrey Holland and Daniel Rubia will outline the steps they took to determine the test stand needs, operation parameters, test stand design, and test requirements.
AT OUR LAST MEETING _______________________________________________

Susan Hance and David Kimball, both from ModernTech SI Inc., explained the factors that influenced the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to select the GEOPAK Civil Engineering Suite as its standard computer-aided design software package. They described the organizations impacted by this change, today’s status of its implementation, and what lies ahead for TDOT. The Department requires that its engineering and surveying consultants also use GEOPAK as their software package for interfacing with TDOT projects. Modern Tech handles the GEOPAK account for TDOT.

DON’T FORGET _____________________________________________________
The management at the Days Inn across the street from the Krystal Building (M.L. King Blvd and Carter Street) is allowing us to park in their parking lot during our Monday meetings at The Cellar Restaurant. It is free of charge. They do ask, however, that you leave some type of note on your car’s dashboard to indicate that you are attending the Chattanooga Engineers Club. Your copy of the snail-mail bulletin will do as marker.
