NEXT MEETING ___________________________________________________
Monday, June 18, 12:00 noon
Cellar Restaurant at Union Square
Downtown, Chattanooga
A Joint CEC/IEEE Meeting.
TOPIC: The Electric Power Industry: Its History and Likely Future.
Brownouts, blackouts, soaring power rates, deregulation and takeovers. These words are not new to Webster’s dictionary, but they have never been used so extensively as they are today. What’s happening to the electric power industry? What is its future likely to be; and how will it affect our future?
Tom Hancock, Vice President, TVA Transmission Operations and Maintenance, will provide us a perspective of how electric utilities came to be the way they are today and the current forces that are effecting major changes in the way that industry will operate in the future. Tom will also describe the approach TVA is taking to meet its present challenges.
PAST MEETINGS ______________________________________
June 11 - Award winners, Seth Heltsley and Ted Lee described the projects
they submitted to the International Science this year. Ted developed a technique
for determining the presence of sickle -cell anemia in red blood cells using a
laser beam’s diffraction pattern. Seth developed and demonstrated a
robotic serpent whose unique mechanical and pneumatic design allows it to
slither in the natural motion of a serpent. It was difficult to envision that
these two bright minds belong to students who are still only in the
11th grade. Our hats go off to them and to their supporting teachers
from Tullahoma High School, Harold Liner and Frank Vandant.
