OUR PREVIOUS MEETING ________________________________________

Terry Reynolds provided us this summary:

Jeff Rose, Director of Water Quality Control for the City of Maryville, TN and Richard Yarbrough, Principal of C2RL, Inc., spoke to us about the international organization "Water for People" (WFP). It is an organization dedicated to helping the most impoverished people worldwide improve their quality of life by supporting sustainable drinking water, sanitation and hygiene projects. It was founded by the American Water Works Association (AWWA). Jeff, who is current Chairman of the Water for People committee of AWWA, provided us an overview of the organization's activities, with a special focus on their current projects in Guatemala. A portion of a recent PBS video highlighting the work of WFP was shown featuring on-site volunteers coupled with fund-raising efforts in the US and Canada. Supporters of WFP donate materials and equipment, and WFP volunteers provide assistance with planning and technical expertise. As much as possible, labor is provided by those receiving the assistance.
