NEXT MEETING ___________________________________________________

Monday, October 15:

TOPIC: NASA Technology Transfers, Fred Schramm, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center

There is probably no other single industry today that has so dramatically effected our daily lives in the technology we use than the space industry. From computers to airplanes to the way we communicate, all have had their major technological jump from the developments that were originally intended for space application.

Fred Schramm of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center will describe the technologies that have been transferred to the public sector, beginning with the Apollo mission and focusing on the most recent years. He says that you will be amazed at large number of technologically innovative items you can find around the home these days whose origin can be traced to research and development efforts performed for the space program. Fred will also provide us a sneak preview of likely coming attractions.

Fred served as a production engineer for NASA’s Space Shuttle External Tank and Space Shuttle Main Engine Projects. He is currently the manager of the Center Director’s Discretionary Fund, a program for some of NASA’s most advanced research, in the Technology Transfer Department at Marshall Space Flight Center. In that capacity he is responsible for the transfer of NASA technology to industries in Tennessee.

Invocation: Paul Snyder
