NEXT EVENT ____________________________________________

Monday, November 5:

Topic: "The Chandra X-ray Telescope".

This powerful earth-orbiting telescope is providing the most clear and detailed X-ray images of the universe. It is helping to unravel many of its mysteries and providing a better understanding of its structure and evolution. Dr. Martin Weisskopf of the Marshall Space Flight Center will describe how this innovative instrument was designed and built, and what phenomenal discoveries it is making. Dr. Weisskopf will also show images of some of the outstanding results the telescope has yielded to date and explain the implication of its findings.

Dr. Weisskopf is project scientist for NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and chief of the X-ray Astronomy at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.

This meeting as well as all others in November is hosted by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

Invocation: Jack Anderson

Fellowship: Almeda Frazier

Entrée du jour: Beef Pot Roast

OUR PREVIOUS EVENT, October 29 ________________________

Our field trip to the Chattanooga Wastewater Treatment Facility was a great opportunity for us to see how, in today’s environment, wastewater from a relatively large population such as the Chattanooga area is treated. Jerry Steward, manager of the plant, provided an interesting and amusing introduction to waste water treatment. Our rather large group then broke up into several smaller ones who were then toured by Jerry and some of his associates through the plant’s various facilities.
