Topic: "Innovations in Home Appliances: New Technology Toys for the Kitchen"

Dr. Prabhat Pekriwal, Maytag

Have you ever seen a super-speed oven, an all-in-one Gemini range, or a freezer without internal space constraints? These are but some of the appliances on the drawing board to make life in the kitchen more easy to bear. Dr. Prabhat Pekriwal, Manager of the Product Analysis Division of Maytag’s Cleveland Cooking Products, Inc. will describe the features of some of the new appliance being developed by his company and explain the technology that makes them work. He says that the kitchen of the future will not be boring or laborious, but a fun and exciting place. So, even if you can’t stand the heat, soon you may not have to get out of the kitchen.

Dr. Martin Weisskopf of the Marshall Space Flight Center described how Chandra, the worlds most powerful earth-orbiting X-ray telescope was designed and built, and what phenomenal discoveries it is making. Dr. Weisskopf also showed images of some of the outstanding results the telescope has yielded to date and explained the implication of its findings. The space-borne observatory is providing a much better understanding of the structure and evolution of the universe. Dr. Weisskopf is project scientist for NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and chief of the X-ray Astronomy at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.
