NEXT MEETING ____________________________________________
Cellar Restaurant at Union Square
Monday, November 19:
Topic:  "Implications of Inter-basin Water Transfers from the Tennessee River"
Dodd Galbraith, Tenn. Dept. of Environment and Conservation.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDE&C) has under consideration a petition by the East Side Utility District in the Chattanooga area for a permit to withdraw five million gallons of water per day from the Tennessee River for a period of ten years. The permit would be renewable on expiration.  Some of the East Side Utility District's water deliveries would remain in the Tennessee River basin, but much of it would be exported to an adjacent river basin.

Mr. Dodd Galbraith, Director of Policy for the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation will discuss the general issue of inter-basin water transfer and describe the approach the state must take to respond to petitions such as that of the East Side Utility District. He will also explain what factors are considered in assessing the merits of petitions that may effect the availability and quality of the state's fresh water supply.

Invocation: Steve Smith
Fellowship: Jack Anderson

Entrée du jour: Beef Bourguignon

OUR PREVIOUS MEETING, November 12 _____________________________________
During the business portion of our meeting we discussed a proposed resolution that the Engineers Club support wise planning and careful management of water resources in the Tennessee Valley.  With the incorporation of an amendment, the resolution passed by a majority of members present. A copy of the resolution can be viewed at the Club's web site: www.chattanooga.net/engineer/CEC

CEC0144.jpg (2K)Dr. Prabhat Tekriwal, Manager of the Product Analysis Division of Maytag's Cleveland Cooking Products, Inc. provided us a sneak preview of coming attractions in household appliances. He described the super-speed oven, an all-in-one Gemini range, a freezer without internal space constraints and many other new and innovative features for various appliances from dishwashers to vacuum cleaners. Based on Dr. Tekriwal's description of these features, it looks like cooking and keeping up with household chores in the near future will not only be a lot easier, but might even be fun.
As in other recent weeks, the meeting was well attended and we were honored with a number of guests.
