MEETING___________________________________________
Monday,
September 30 - noon
Location: LifeTouch - 6104 Preservation
Drive
Topic: A Plant Tour of LifeTouch - an on-site look at
modern digital photography - John Love, Senior Production Manager, is our tour
guide for the day.
LifeTouch is a national school portrait company, with labs across the
country. The company has made the transition from traditional photographic
processes to digital imaging. On our tour of their facility we see just how the
transformation was made. We will learn about image and data acquisition, storage
and control of enormous amounts (terabytes) of image data, and methods used to
improve picture quality and correct for color and shade imbalances. We will also
see how mass production is achieved and how people work in this new digital-age
environment.
Please plan to be at the front lobby of LifeTouch at 11:50 a.m. so
that we may start our tour at 12:00. LifeTouch is located at 6104
Preservation Drive; there are entrances to the facility from Bonny Oaks or
Jersey Pike (Both roads are accessible from Hwy 153).
Preservation Drive is probably best accessed from Jersey
Pike. It is one block northeast of Bonny Oaks.
OUR PREVIOUS MEETING - September 23

Joel Williams of TVA's River Operations
told us how his agency tries to maintain a balance between clean water,
navigation, power generation, recreation, and flood control and how it
integrates the operation of the Tennessee River and reservoir system to meet
these multiple objectives. Joel also told us about a study that TVA is currently
conducting to investigate alternative strategies and policies for managing lake
levels and flow rates and to evaluate the potential impacts of those
alternatives. Joel told us about the results of the study thus far and about
upcoming opportunities for additional public input. Joel is the Assistant
Project Manager for the Reservoir Operations Study. For more information

PROPOSED CHANGE
______________________________________
It is difficult for an organization
such as the Chattanooga Engineers Club (CEC) to maintain current and accurate
financial records when the persons responsible for those efforts maintain that
function for only one year. Just about the time a Treasurer gets the hang of the
required tasks and procedures, he or she is elected to the next officer position
and the learning cycle for someone else begins all over again. To maintain
better continuity for the CEC bookkeeping work, a number of past CEC presidents
have proposed to make the position of Treasurer one that is held for longer than
a year. The position would be appointed by the Executive Committee and would be
held by someone who would volunteer to take on the associated bookkeeping task
for an extended period of time. A number of people have already expressed an
interest in taking on the job.
To change the way the treasurer is
chosen requires a change in the CEC constitution and by-laws. A committee of
past CEC presidents has drafted appropriate language for the proposed change.
CEC members will have an opportunity to vote on the change during our regularly
scheduled program meeting sometime during latter part of October.
