October 21
Site: The Cellar at 12:00 noon
Topic: Chattanooga State - Partners with Industry for Success- Dr.
James Catanzaro
Chattanooga State Technical Community Collage, CSTTC, has a substantial adult
training programs and conducts in-plant training on a contract basis. Dr.
Catanzaro, President of CSTTC, will share his vision of the changing role of
community colleges in light of the need for industries to retrain their adult
workers and for those industries to remain competitive. Technical competency in
the workforce is increasingly cited as a key factor in the choice of where a new
industry wants to locate. Many believe that low state funding to colleges is
impairing Tennessee's ability to sustain a good job base and feel that Tennessee
may already have reached a crisis point. Dr. Catanzaro will also describe recent
technological initiatives that Chattanooga State is taking and how partnerships
with area industries are helping those industries and their workers compete
successfully in today's market place.

PROPOSED BY-LAW
CHANGES______________________________________
To maintain better
continuity for the CEC bookkeeping work, a number of past CEC presidents have
proposed to make the position of Treasurer one that is held for longer than a
year. The position would be appointed by the Executive Committee and would be
held by someone who would volunteer to take on the associated bookkeeping task
for an extended period of time. To change the way the treasurer is chosen
requires a change in the CEC constitution and by-laws. The proposed changes can
be seen by clicking on the appropriate link on our web site at www.chattanooga.net/engineer/CEC . Also shown are
proposed minor changes to some of the officer duties. A vote on the proposed
changes will be held at our regular meeting this coming Monday on October
21.
