OUR PREVIOUS MEETING – October 14 _________________________________
Dr. Catanzaro, president of Chattanooga State Technical Community College, shared his vision of the changing role of community colleges in light of: the need to retrain adult workers, recent technological initiatives at Chattanooga State and staying competitive. Chattanooga State has a substantial adult training program in down town Chattanooga, and conducts in-plant training on a contact basis. Chattanooga State has an exceptionally high market penetration in the Tenn. Valley with 40% of high school graduates attending within two years of graduating high school. Over 30,000 individuals out of an area population of 300,000 attended programs from CSTCC this year.

State monies for technological upgrades have been reduced to zero. In spite of this drop in state support CSTCC has still managed to buy substantial numbers of up to date computers (over 400 last year.) Chattanooga is managing a regional off-site training and distance learning program covering the entire Tennessee Valley. More information about the presentation is available at www.chattanooga.net/engineer/CEC/week_10-21-02.html
