Topic: Transportation-  Future Trends and Current Research- Dick Zeigler, Director ORNL Transportation Technology Program
 
It was the effective transport of goods and people that founded Chattanooga. The city demonstrates the importance of adequate road, rail, river and air transport facilities in establishing the location and well being of industries. It also determines the well being of the communities in which its industries and businesses reside. Dick Zeigler will speak to us about the state of transportation in the Unites States today and what he foresees in the future. He will also describe emerging improvements in traffic control, safety technologies, and when we can expect our car to drive independent of the driver.
 
Dick Ziegler is Director of the Transportation Technologies Program at the National Transportation Research Center in Oak Ridge (ORNL) .

The Future of Coal in the Power Industry - Our own Steve Smith, TVA
Steve explored some of the environmental aspects of coal use, including some of the newer technologies for reducing acid rain, sulfur dioxide and mercury emissions from coal use. Steve says that the technology of CO2 sequestration is being explored for possible application 20 years from now. Steve believes that research and subsequent advances in coal utilization technology are vital to the nation's security and economic health.

All of our weekly presentations are held at the Cellar restaurant of the Tallen building, Union Square Downtown Chattanooga from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Our meeting room and luncheon service are open by 11:30 a.m. Lunch buffet is $10.00 per person. No reservation is required. Free parking is available in the Days Inn Motel (on Carter St. and MLK Blvd,) courtesy of the days Inn management. When you park there, be sure to place a note on your dashboard indicating you are attending the engineers club meeting.
