Topic:  The History of Flight:  From the Wright Brothers to the International Space Station - Bob Jaques - Historian, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC)

On December 17th, 1903 the brothers Wilbur and Orville Wright flew their Wright Flyer from level ground under engine power alone and made aviation history.  Now, in less than a century, mankind has proven that the "sky is NOT the limit" by making significant strides in the goal to colonize outer space.  But how did we get to that orbiting habitat from the sandy dunes of Kitty Hawk?  Bob Jaques from NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center will lay out the time line and important milestones along the road from Kitty Hawk to the International Space Station.  As well as the technologies employed from engine power to rocket power.

Invocation/Pledge:  Jack Anderson

Menu:  Turkey and Dressing, Yams, Green Peas, and Pecan Pie

OUR PREVIOUS MEETING_______________________________________

Damon Riggs from ARCADIS gave a PowerPoint presentation to the club outlining how national and local trends in solid waste disposal have changed.  He provided us with information about the advantages and disadvantages of various emerging technologies being utilized to deal with waste disposal and conform with the Subtitle D federal regulation.  One of these technologies included piling the waste higher by using special supports to minimize the footprint area needed.  He also discussed capturing and converting the decaying by-products to energy to local consumers to help offset operational costs.
