Topic: Working In Space - History of
Skylab - Bob Jaques, NASA Marshall Space Flight
Center
November 11, 2003 marks
the thirtieth anniversary of the first space station: Skylab. It was America's first experimental space
station and was designed for a long duration mission. The history of
Skylab and its relevance to today's International Space Station will be told to
us by Bob Jaques, a science historian and talented storyteller who is working
under contract for the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. Some systems designed for Skylab didn't
work as planned according to the website below,
and Bob will likely tell us some of the inside stories on how these problems
were overcome. The Skylab
program objectives were twofold: To prove that humans could live and work in space for extended periods, and to
expand our knowledge of solar astronomy well beyond Earth-based
