Topic: “An Interactive Arm-Wrestling Machine” and
“Vinyl Covering Removal System” - Dr. Rick Keyser and UTC Engineering Design
Team (will be at UTC)
Dr. Rick
Keyser and a UTC design team will present the design of a form of display to be
used for recruitment purposes. The
objectives provided to this design were:
Design a display that is visually pleasing, interactive, and demonstrates
engineering principles. The design
team will present their final design—an interactive arm-wrestling machine. Another team will present a project for
Chattanooga-based Intersign Corporation. Intersign Corp. designs, sells,
and manufactures custom signs.
This design team was chartered to design, build, and test a machine to
remove vinyl covering used during the sign manufacturing process without causing
damage to the sign or underlying paint.

Topic: “The UTC Engineering Design Experience” and
“Vehicle Monitoring System” - Dr. Rick Keyser and UTC Engineering Design
Team
Dr. Rick Keyser discussed the UTC
engineering design experience including the roles and responsibilities of the
design team, industrial partner, and UTC faculty. A review of the presentation
evaluation criteria was given and members were asked to participate in the
evaluation of the student presentations. The members of the student design team
are Steve Sells, Paul Thomas, Jeremy Poarch, Harsh Desai, and Lien Gangte. Their
project was to design a vehicle data acquisition device for the United States
Postal Service. Steve presented the
objectives of their project. Harsh
discussed the design parameters and accomplishments of the design team. Lien talked about the instrumentation
used in the data acquisition device, future scope of the project, and potential
applications.
Dr. Rick Keyser extended an invitation
for Chattanooga Engineers Club members to be on an advisory committee for the
completion of this vehicle monitoring system and possibly other senior
projects at UTC. For details about the advisory committee, please contact
Rick Keyser at UTC at 425-4020 or Rick-Keyser@utc.edu.
