Topic:   “An Interactive Arm-Wrestling Machine” and “Vinyl Covering Removal System” - Dr. Rick Keyser and UTC Engineering Design Team (will be at UTC)

 

Dr. Rick Keyser and a UTC design team will present the design of a form of display to be used for recruitment purposes.  The objectives provided to this design were:  Design a display that is visually pleasing, interactive, and demonstrates engineering principles.  The design team will present their final design—an interactive arm-wrestling machine.  Another team will present a project for Chattanooga-based Intersign Corporation.   Intersign Corp. designs, sells, and manufactures custom signs.   This design team was chartered to design, build, and test a machine to remove vinyl covering used during the sign manufacturing process without causing damage to the sign or underlying paint.

Topic:  “The UTC Engineering Design Experience” and “Vehicle Monitoring System” - Dr. Rick Keyser and UTC Engineering Design Team

 

Dr. Rick Keyser discussed the UTC engineering design experience including the roles and responsibilities of the design team, industrial partner, and UTC faculty. A review of the presentation evaluation criteria was given and members were asked to participate in the evaluation of the student presentations. The members of the student design team are Steve Sells, Paul Thomas, Jeremy Poarch, Harsh Desai, and Lien Gangte. Their project was to design a vehicle data acquisition device for the United States Postal Service.  Steve presented the objectives of their project.  Harsh discussed the design parameters and accomplishments of the design team.  Lien talked about the instrumentation used in the data acquisition device, future scope of the project, and potential applications.

 

Dr. Rick Keyser extended an invitation for Chattanooga Engineers Club members to be on an advisory committee for the completion of this vehicle monitoring system and possibly other senior projects at UTC.  For details about the advisory committee, please contact Rick Keyser at UTC at 425-4020 or Rick-Keyser@utc.edu.

WHERE WE MEET _______________________________________________________

 

For the April 19 meeting, we will meet at UTC in the Engineering, Math and Computer Science Building, Room 238, and lunch will be provided.  Lunch will be spaghetti and meatballs, salad, bread and dessert.  Parking will be in the lot behind the new building and the cost will be included in the $10 lunch fee.
