Topic:   “Getting girls excited about science and technical careers” - Cecelia Wigal, UTC College of Engineering & Computer Science

Girls’ Incorporated of Chattanooga, through their national Thinking Smart program and teaming with UTC, is operating a four-week day camp that introduces 10 to 14 year-old girls to science and technical applications and careers.  The camp emphasizes environmental science, design, computers, space and astronomy.  Over 20 girls are participating in this first offering of the camp.   The home base of the camp is UTC’s Engineering Math and Computer Science building; though the girls also take field trips to various sites around Chattanooga so they can see women working in science, engineering, design, and technology fields.  Come and hear about the design of this camp and the experiences so far.

OUR PREVIOUS MEETING________________________________________________

Topic:  “What You Don’t Know Can Bite You” - Mack McCarley, P.E., Qore Property Sciences

QORE Property Sciences prepares comprehensive building and property risk assessments.  The purpose of the assessments is to evaluate the business risk of acquiring facilities.  Predicting future facility maintenance saves time, money, and headaches for potential buyers as they make judgments as to the level of risk contained in the purchase of a facility.  The assessments are comprehensive and include geotechnical, environmental, and complete facilities evaluations.  A large portion of potential risk is frequently hidden and failure to recognize a risk can have serious financial implications.

Thanks to Jim Barrott for the meeting summary.
