NEXT WEEK (The Read House)_____________________________________________

Monday, June 28, noon, The Read House, Continental Room

Topic:   “Six Sigma Green Belt Training” - George Aslinger, Aslinger & Associates Science

Ever wonder why the United States is the leader in so many areas of business and manufacturing?  It’s because we care about quality.  But being the leader in quality takes a lot of work.  Six Sigma is an overall enterprise improvement methodology that uses data to monitor, control, and improve operational performance by eliminating and preventing ‘defects’ in products and associated processes.  Six Sigma emphasizes producing better, faster, and lower cost product and services than the competition and stresses breakthrough improvement, for improved bottom line results.  For our next program, George Aslinger will help us learn about key Lean Thinking and Six Sigma concepts and:

Review case studies from manufacturing, healthcare, insurance, service and distribution businesses

•  Key roles in successful Lean/Six Sigma implementations

• The importance and methods of training Green and Black Belts

Invocation/Pledge Chair for June:  Jack Wagner

OUR PREVIOUS MEETING________________________________________________

Topic: “Getting girls excited about science and technical careers” - Cecelia Wigal, UTC College of Engineering & Computer Science

Girls, Inc. sponsors the Thinking Smart Initiative.  This is a national initiative to foster girls’ interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).  In Chattanooga, a group of interested persons formed the Chattanooga Thinking Smart Initiative Board which in turn developed a “Smart Thinking Camp” for girls ages 10-14 in the Chattanooga area.  The camp is everyday from 8:00 am to 3:30 p.m. over four weeks.  The camp provides projects and activities in STEM, involves female mentors, and concludes with a one day Women in Science and Engineering Conference.  The camp is structured so that girls participate in projects and activities in four different areas - the environment, design, technology, and astronomy.  Some of the sponsors include the UTC College of Engineering and Computer Science, Chattanooga Nature Center, EPB, and the Smart Thinking Initiative Board.

Thanks to Jim Barrott for the meeting summary.
