NEXT WEEK _____________________________________________________________

Monday, July 5 - NO MEETING - INDEPENDENCE DAY HOLIDAY

OUR PREVIOUS MEETING________________________________________________

Topic: “Six Sigma Green Belt Training” - George Aslinger, Aslinger & Associates Science

If managers are willing to identify their biggest problem, assign their best employee to it, provide tools, resources and management support to fix it, and guarantee uninterrupted time and focus to the employee assigned to it until the problem is solved, these represent the base principles of the lean manufacturing or six sigma concept.  Lean/six sigma is a continuous improvement process providing tools and methods that management can use to solve their biggest problems.  What makes it powerful?  Dedicated and trained problem solvers working in a well-structured system on projects aligned with business priorities.  What are the critical success factors? Strong, viable, and involved leadership; specific goals; full-time project leaders; training to develop the capabilities of the problem solvers; regular reviews to assess progress and hold accountability; and project selection based on strategic priorities.

Since the 1970s when quality and continuous improvement became a national priority in product production, a number of concepts have been introduced:  MBO, HPO, Quality Circles, SPC, SDWT, ISO, Baldridge, TQM, Lean, and Six Sigma.  Each concept has succeeded on the achievements and understandings of the previous ones.  In the future, there will be another new continuous improvement concept that will build on the success of lean/six sigma.

Thanks to Jim Barrott for the meeting summary.
