NEXT MEETING:
MONDAY, January 23, 2006 (noon to 1:00 pm)
"Cameras on Traffic Lights and in
Curves" John VanWinkle, City of Chattanooga
Traffic surveillance cameras can be triggered by a
radar device or by a speeding car to take two carefully timed photos. The
first may be to capture information about the car. The second may be to
make a record of its speed. The City of Chattanooga's Traffic Engineer,
John VanWinkle, will tell us of a possible proposal to put cameras in dangerous
curves and at some intersections. Hopefully these new devices will help to
encourage drivers to reduce to safe speeds and approach intersections with
traffic lights more cautiously.
Guests are welcome. For more information,
call Steve Smith at 843-1815 or Judy Driggans at 751-7616.

PREVIOUS MEETING

Monday, January 9, 2006, Tour of the Tennessee Rand Automation plant
Tennessee Rand Automation has an in-house mechanical group and an
established machine shop. They specialize in tube bending equipment, robotic arc
and resistance welding cells, custom machines, and industrial
networking. They design and fabricate tooling for projects as well as
manufacture toggle clamps, weld monitoring equipment, industrial human machine
interfaces, and a collection of miniature electrical equipment.
During the tour, they showed us a completed automobile chair without
upholstery before showing us the equipment to make the bends. We also saw
their mechanical design offices, equipment to put spark plugs into boxes, the
machine shop, and a training area for using the robotic welding equipment.
Angela Lee from News Channel 9 also went on the tour with us and her story was
shown on the 5:30 pm news. We learned that Tennessee Rand Automation is
advertising to fill four mechanical engineering positions.
