PREVIOUS MEETING MONDAY, April
3, 2006 - Jack Wagner, P. E. presented an
interesting talk and demonstration on the Rubik’s Cube, the world’s most
prolific puzzle with over 200 million cubes sold. Jack illustrated the inner
mechanisms of the cube and gave an
overview of the solution to the puzzle. We saw videos of competitive cube solvers – one
fellow solved it in 14 seconds with only one hand. Amazing! The trick is to
memorize certain ‘algorithms’ for manipulating the colored blocks, and keeping
the cube oriented by the center post as you move.
