– “East Tennessee Hydrogen Initiative” – J. Ronald Bailey, PhD, P.E., Guerry

College of Engineering and Computer Science, University of
Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Separate projects are coming together that will help make it possible for hydrogen fueled vehicles to get started in East Tennessee. Dr. Bailey will give us an overview and an update on the East Tennessee Hydrogen Initiative.
CEC meets every Monday at The Cellar Restaurant in the basement of the Regions Bank building at 200 West M.L. King Blvd. across from The Read House Hotel. Parking is available on the 10th street side of the building, or you may park at the Days Inn Hotel across Carter Street (leave a dashboard note saying “Chatta. Engrs. Club”). A buffet lunch (Grilled ham steak with pineapple, broccoli casserole, buttered corn, bread pudding, and a drink) will be available for $11.00 starting at 11:30 am. The meeting will begin at noon and the presentation will conclude at 1 pm. Reservations are not required. Please bring a guest if you like.

FIELD TRIP May 22 – “High-Definition
Television Broadcasting” – Tom Tolar, President/General Manager, WRCB-TV, 900 Whitehall Road, Chattanooga, TN. No luncheon
provided on field tour, members may brown bag or eat out on their own. Members
will assemble in the parking lot of WRCB-TV from 11:30
to 11:45 am. The field trip tour will include visits to the broadcast center and
presentations by department managers on the implementation of HD broadcasting.
HDTV is a hot topic today. We will see first hand what
Channel 3 is doing as part of a national effort that will change the way we will
be viewing TV. Come see how the next generation of television is being
implemented in Chattanooga. Tour will conclude around 1 pm.
Directions: The
studio is one mile north of the river on Hwy 27. Northbound, take the Whitehall
Rd. exit and turn right into the parking lot. Southbound, take the Signal Mtn
Rd. exit, left on Signal Mtn Rd, right on Dayton Blvd, under the bridge straight
to Cherokee Blvd, then turn right on Whitehall, one block on left.

Dr. Tzong-Ru Lee, faculty member, Department of Marketing, National Chung-Hsing University, Taiwan will discuss Taiwan/Chattanooga business alliances. Dr. Tzong-Ru Lee is a visiting Fulbright scholar at the University of Tennessee and Chairman of the Institute of Electronic Commerce.

“Robotic Surgery at Parkridge Medical Center” – Adam Royer, Operating Room
Manager, Parkridge Medical Center.
Adam has worked closely with the surgical
team at Parkridge on the development and implementation of a robotic surgery
service line using the da Vinci Surgical System by Intuitive Surgical. The staff
performs specialty procedures including Robotic Surgery with the da Vinci system
and TMR Laser for re-vascularazation of Myocardium, and
many other procedures with latin names I can’t spell. A very interesting
presentation; Adam will be back soon.
