The July 10th presentation will provide introduction and statistics on the Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI) program, currently in-place in approximately 40 states and recently adopted by the Tennessee Department of Transportation, and the challenges that the program presented to the Signal Mountain Road project (the 2nd CEI project in the State). The presentation will also provide technical and logistical information about the construction project as well as address some of the traffic, regulatory and public/private interest issues that helped steer the critical path of construction. The presentation qualifies for 0.5 PDUs (30 minutes) which will leave some time for Q & A.

FUTURE MEETINGS

July 3 – No Meeting – Fourth of July

OTHER EVENTS OF INTEREST TO ENGINEERS

PREVIOUS MEETING - June 26, 2006 “Storm Shelters by Remagen” – James Waller, 2006 winner of Spirit of Innovation, Early Innovation Award. Jim showed us the installation procedure for his 4’x7’x7’ safe room. The steel structure can withstand tornado-force winds and keep it’s occupants safe from wind driven missles. It also acts as a dandy vault and panic room. Costs for the basic model run about $8000 plus labor and it can be assembled by people with average construction skills.
