NEXT MEETING August 14, 2006  “BRAG Day for CEC

What do Regional Science Fairs, Lego Competitions, E-Week, and scholarships to local universities all have in common? Answer: Members of the Chattanooga Engineers Club. Come celebrate with us as we have speakers talk briefly about the past, present, and future of all these activities intended to steer young people into scientific fields of study.

Location: The Tallan Cellar, basement of Regions Bank/Krystal building at 200 West Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd Chattanooga, TN 37402

Parking: Parking is available on the 10th street side of the building, or you may park at the Days Inn Hotel across Carter Street (leave a dashboard note saying “Chatta. Engrs. Club”).

Lunch will be available for $11 beginning at 11:30 am and will be buffet style including a salad, turkey & dressing, sweet potato casserole, green beans, a roll and cherry cobbler.

BUSINESS

The Bylaws Committee proposed changes to the Chattanooga Engineers Club Constitution and Bylaws. The Executive Committee reviewed those changes and with minor revisions agreed with their proposal. The proposed changes were summarized at the July 31 and Aug. 7 meetings and posted last week on the www.ChattanoogaEngineersClub.org website. The club will vote on these changes at the Aug. 28 meeting.

The CEC Education Committee will have its next meeting on Thursday, August 17. The next meeting of the E-Week Committee will be held on Thursday, August 24. August 7, 2006 “Anti-Submarine Warfare Comes To Chattanooga” Keith Buckner, Tennessee Operations Manager for Adaptive Methods Inc.

Mr. Buckner presented an overview Adaptive Methods, a company that develops advanced sensor processing and computing architecture products for surveillance, security, and military combat systems. They will be increasing their staffing levels in Chattanooga in support of work primarily for the US Navy. He talked about the need for synchronized redundant systems, multi function displays, dropping listening devices from a helicopter into the ocean in a grid pattern, sorting out all the sounds to determine if any may represent a threat to our ships, and a torpedo that can travel 200 mph.
