Next Meeting January 22 at the Cellar – “Is There a Climate Crisis?”

Tiffany Gibby, a recent Climate Project trainee, will present information with image-rich slides discussing scientific data on the state of the earth’s atmosphere. From the Kyoto Treaty to polar bears, global climate issues are common in today’s media. This discussion will center on the scientific data behind the claims and provide a basis for linking climate change to human activity. Ms. Gibby is a former president of the Chattanooga Engineers Club.

Location: The Tallan Cellar Restaurant, basement of the Tallan Financial Center at 200 West Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd Chattanooga, TN 37402.

Parking: You may park at the Days Inn Hotel across Carter Street (leave a dashboard note saying “Chatta. Engrs. Club”). Parking is also available at the Tallan building or Public Library. Lunch will be available for $11 beginning at 11:30 am and will be buffet style including chopped steak, baked potato, green beans, apple cobbler, roll, and drink.

Tennessee Rand is a leading North American supplier of automated welding systems, advanced welding system design, high-quality weld fixtures, robotic integration, and process automation. Based in a state-of-the-art 100,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility on Moccasin Bend, they build a broad variety of equipment ranging from dedicated welding cells to integrated in-line systems.

LAST MEETING - JAN 8 – “Ethanol Powered Corvette & Fuel from Sunlight and Water”

I hope you did not miss the opportunity to examine a really fast and cool-looking hydrogen powered car up close! A hydrogen powered sportscar from MTSU was demonstrated in the parking lot after lunch. Our presenter was Dr. Cliff Ricketts, Professor of Agricultural Education and Acting Director in the School of Agribusiness and Agriscience at Middle Tennessee State University. His research projects were featured in testimony last May before the House Science Energy Subcommittee – see http://www.house.gov/science/hearings/energy06/May%2017/Ricketts.pdf.
