Tennessee Rand is a leading North American supplier of automated welding systems, high-quality weld fixtures, robotic integration, and process automation. Based in a state-of-the-art 100,000 sqft manufacturing facility, they build a broad variety of equipment ranging from dedicated welding cells to integrated in-line systems.

Parking will be at a premium, so please make plans with fellow nembers to carpool to the plant. Parallel park on the long road leading up to the plant.

FUTURE MEETINGS

Feb. 5 – Jeff Ross-Bain, PE will be speaking on “Green Buildings.” Jeff is a mechanical engineer in charge of high performance buildings for the Atlanta based firm of Smith Dalia Architects, LLC, who are the architects designing One North Shore as one of the first Green Buildings in Chattanooga. Jeff will explain the LEED Building program, with examples of Green Buildings from an engineering perspective.

February 19 – State Senator Bo Watson has bee invited to be the kick off speaker for E-Week

February 22 – E-Week banquet at Chattanooga Convention Center. Sustainable systems that developing communities can own and operate will be the theme of the Keynote Address, to be given by John K. Bennett, who represents “Engineers Without Borders-USA” a non-profit humanitarian organization established in partnership with developing communities worldwide in order to improve the quality of life. This partnership involves the implementation of sustainable engineering projects, while involving and training internally responsible engineers and engineering students. The activities of EWB-USA range from the construction of sustainable systems that developing communities can own and operate without external assistance, to empowering communities by enhancing local, technical, managerial, and entrepreneurial skills. These projects are initiated by, and completed with, contributions for the host community working with project teams. EWB-USQ contributes to meeting the United Nations Millennium Development Goals though capacity building in community projects.

February 26 – Samuel Logan, President and CEO of Logan Energy has been invited to describe the development and deployment of stationary fuel cell technology for generation of clean electricity. Logan Energy has installed dozens of fuel cells across the Southeast that now generate more than 2 megawatts of reliable, clean power.


Last Meeting January 22 at the Cellar – “Is There a Climate Crisis?”

Tiffany Gibby, a recent Climate Project trainee, presented information with image-rich slides discussing scientific data on the state of the earth’s atmosphere. From the Kyoto Treaty to polar bears, global climate issues are common in today’s media. Ms. Gibby is a past-president of the Chattanooga Engineers Club.
