NEXT MEETING Monday, February 5, Cellar Restaurant, Union Square, Downtown

Topic: Green Buildings:  Strategies to Maximizing Economic and Environmental Performance. Jeff Ross-Bain, Smith Dalia Architects of Atlanta

As the environmental impact of buildings becomes more apparent, a new field called green building is gaining momentum. "Green" or "Sustainable Building" is the practice of creating healthier and more resource-efficient models of construction, renovation, operation, maintenance, and demolition. Research and experience increasingly demonstrate that when buildings are designed and operated with their lifecycle impacts in mind, they can provide great environmental, economic, and social benefits. Jeff Ross-Bain, PE, Senior Associate for Smith Dalia Architects of Atlanta, will describe the design strategies that are currently used to create green buildings. He says that such buildings reduce operating costs, reduce waste streams and conserve and restore natural resources. Jeff is a licensed Professional Engineer with over 26 years experience in the commercial and industrial HVAC industry. He is currently the Green Building Consultant for the New World of Coca-Cola corporate attraction in Atlanta.
