Monday, February 12, 2007 - "So you think your home is
safe?" David Ballard, Brenntag Mid-South Chemicals
Chemicals in the workplace are well known hazards. Not
so well understood are the dangers associated with the household chemicals we
store and use in our homes. David Ballard, Tennessee Valley District Manager for
Brenntag Mid-South Chemicals will identify those chemicals and suggest
ways you can improve the safety of your home.
Lunch will be
available for $11 beginning at 11:30 am and will be buffet style
including a salad, baked pork chops,
green beans, candied yams, peach cobbler, roll, and drink.

February 26 - Chris Davis, Chief Operating Officer of
Logan Energy will describe the development and deployment of stationary fuel
cell technology for generation of clean electricity. Logan Energy has
installed dozens of fuel cells across the Southeast that now generate more than
2 megawatts of reliable, clean electricity.
March 5 - Dr. Marilyn A. Brown,
Professsor of Public Policy at Georgia Tech has been invited to speak on "Energy
and Public Policy."
March 12 - Wayne Huddleson, Project Manager with
the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be speaking on the construction of the
lock at the Chickamauga Dam on the Tennessee River.
March 19 - Rob Del Bueno
of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy will describe the process developed by
his company to convert used cooking oil into fuel for mass transit.
March 26
- Robert Whitten, Jr. from the National Center for Computational Science at Oak
Ridge National Laboratory will be speaking on status of high performance
computing at ORNL.
PREVIOUS MEETING
Feb. 5 - Jeff Ross-Bain
described the rationale for the use of high performance building design. Green
building initiatives are owner driven, and ASHRAE studies have shown that a
'good' building costs no extra if engineering guidelines are followed from the
start. Jeff is the Green Building Consultant for the New World of Coca-cola
attraction in Atlanta.

Without Borders-USA
Engineers without Borders-USA is a non-profit
humanitarian organization established in partnership with developing communities
worldwide in order to improve the quality of life. This partnership involves the
implementation of sustainable engineering projects, while involving and training
internally responsible engineers and engineering students. The activities of
EWB-USA range from the construction of sustainable systems that developing
communities can own and operate without external assistance, to empowering
communities by enhancing local, technical, managerial, and entrepreneurial
skills. These projects are initiated by, and completed with, contributions for
the host community working with project teams. EWB-USQ contributes to meeting
the United Nations Millennium Development Goals though capacity building in
community projects.

qualifications are:
ENGINEER OF THE YEAR-
graduate of an accredited engineering college with a baccalaureate in a
recognized engineering discipline; known for practice in Chattanooga area and
registered as a professional engineer, (P.E.).
YOUNG ENGINEER OF THE
YEAR- same as for Engineer of the Year except EIT or FE can be held in
lieu of registration; under thirty six years of age during
2006.
TECHNICIAN OF THE YEAR-
graduate of a two-ye! ar asso ciate of applied science degree in engineering
technology with a minimum of five years experience or 10 years related work
experience with two letters of recommendation from engineers verifying that the
level of work is consistent with that required of someone with a two year
degree.
