NEXT MEETING
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Monday, noon to 1 p.m, March 5, 2007 - "The UK Response to Global Warming"

Dr. Ron Bailey, Guerry Professor and Dean of The College of Engineering at UT Chattanooga, will provide an overview of the United Kingdom's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Efforts to date have already surpassed the commitment made by the UK in 1998 at Kyota, Japan, to reduce greenhouse gasses by 12.5% below 1990 levels before 2008-2012. Therefore, the UK has set a new goal of a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2050, including generating 20 percent of energy from renewable sources by 2020. Dr.Bailey will provide an overview of published results to date and a whitepaper that outlines UK plans for continued reductions in greenhouse gases.

Lunch will be available for $11 beginning at 11:30 am and will be buffet style including meat loaf, broccoli casserole, creamed potatos, banana pudding, roll, and drink.

Location: Tallan Cellar Restaurant, 200 West ML King Blvd, Chattanooga, TN

PREVIOUS WEEK PROGRAM
--------------------------------------------------------------------
February 26, 2007 "Fuel Cell Technology for Stationary Commercial Applications" Chris Davis, LOGANEnergy

Chris Davis reminded us that fuel cells use direct electrochemical conversion that is environmentally attractive because of low emissions, lower carbon intensity, as well as less noise and vibration. He outlined the types of fuel cell technologies being developed for commercial stationary systems although our group questioned him about fuel cells for transporation applications. LOGANEnergy has installed over 75 fuel cell power plants exceeding 8MW capacity at over 65 locations like Department of Defense, utilities, banks, universities, real estate developers and other business centers.
