Next Meeting – May 14 – Michael J. Landguth, A.A.E., President and CEO, Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport Authority, will speak on airport growth and its impact on the community. Mike will discuss the many new flights available from Chattanooga, including the low cost carrier that recently joined the airport. Did you know that Mickey Mouse is now a quick 90 minute flight away?? Will engineers find Mickey Mouse compelling?

Lunch will be available for $11 beginning at 11:30 am, and will be from the outstanding Cellar Buffet. Location: Tallan Cellar Restaurant, 200 West ML King Blvd, Chattanooga, TN 37402.

Note: Parking is no longer available at the Days Inn Hotel due to extensive on-going renovations at the Inn. Use on street meters or park in the rear of the Tallan Building or in one of the commercial lots nearby.

Professional Development units (PDUs) are available for most technical programs at CEC meetings.

FUTURE MEETINGS


May 21 – The UTC Mini Baja Team will present their entry in the annual competition sponsored by the Society for Automotive Engineers. Comparisons will be made to the very successful vehicle built by UTC students last year. A demonstration of both vehicles will be held in Miller Park, weather permitting.

May 28 – Memorial Day – No Program Planned

June 4 – “What’s Happening at EPB” Ron Fugett will describe current and planned activities of the Electric Power Board.

June 11 – No Meeting on Monday of this week due to Joint Meeting on Friday

June 15 – TSPE, ASCE, CEC, and CTC are planning a joint meeting at noon on FRIDAY, June 15. Rear Admiral Raymond K. Alexander, Civil Engineer Corps, Deputy Chief of Civil Engineers and Deputy Commander for Contingency Engineering will speak during Navy Week celebration…location and other details to follow

May 7 – “Wind Energy” Ben Fischer, President of Signal Wind Energy LLC, discussed America’s increasing desire for renewable energy and why wind energy is leading the way. Globally, wind power generation more than quadrupled between 2000 and 2006.Wind energy is a growing industry that is challenging and good for the environment. Signal Wind Energy, LLC, is a leading Design/Build Contractor for Wind Energy projects and a subsidiary of EMJ Corporation, one of the most respected providers for construction services in the nation. In 2006 alone, Signal Wind built approximately 10% of the wind projects in the US. Mr. Fischer is a Registered Professional Engineer and has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

May 14, 6:00 pm – American Society for Quality (ASQ) Dinner meeting, “Storytelling Used to Develop a System Model that Provides Root Cause Analysis.” Presented by: Molly Catron. Monday, May 14, 2007, 6:00 p.m., at Out of the Blue Café – in River Park (Behind the Marine Reserve buildings on Amnicola Highway) The cost is $12 per guest or member, $6 each for students. Ms. Catron uses her storytelling talent to both entertain and instruct. This event will leave you with a different view of root cause analysis. Molly Catron is with the state storytelling association and a former employee of Eastman Chemical. Reservations are required by Thursday, May 10, 12:00 Noon. Textron is looking for a senior mechanical design engineer for the Spencer, TN plant. BSME required. We are inviting them to return soon, so more Chattanoogans can see our great programs.

Speaking Opportunities! Volunteers needed to address speaker requests from elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and youth groups to visit classrooms, assemblies, and group meetings. High school student groups may schedule tours of CSTCC to visit mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical technology classes and other locations of the campus.
