There will be NO REGULAR MEETING of the Engineers Club this Monday, June 11, at the Tallan Cellar. Our Engineers Week committee will meet in our regular time slot and location to plan next February’s events. Other committees may want to use this time to share lunch and ideas. Chairpersons, please contact your committee members if you want to use this time for committee deliberations.

Next Meeting - June 15 - Rear Admiral Raymond K. Alexander, Civil Engineer Corps, Deputy Chief of Civil Engineers and Deputy Commander for Contingency Engineering. The U.S. Navy will conduct a series of community outreach and celebratory events from June 8-17 in conjunction with Chattanooga's annual Riverbend Festival 2007. Alexander recently returned from Iraq where he commanded the 1st Marine Expeditionary Engineer Group, consisting of 2,000 U.S. Army, Marine engineers and Seabees in the Al Anbar province and was responsible for coalition forces engineering support during the Battle of Fallujah. He was also appointed as the reconstruction manager for the City of Fallujah as well as all of Al Anbar. Rear Adm. Alexander recently served as Deputy Commander, 1st Naval Construction Division, Norfolk and is now serving as the Deputy Chief of Civil Engineers. Alexander's professional education includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering/ Construction Management from the University of Michigan, a Master of Engineering Degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Tennessee, and he is a registered professional engineer in Tennessee and Alabama.

 

This will be a Joint meeting with TSPE, ASCE, CEC, and CTC at noon on FRIDAY, June 15 in the Cellar Restaurant in the Tallan Building.  Membership in the CEC or the professional societies is not required. PLEASE NOTE THAT SPACE WILL BE LIMITED. If you plan to attend, you must please RSVP to Jeff Parris at 423 757 5843 or by e-mail to jeffrey.parris@worleyparsons.com by Wednesday, June 13. Lunch will be available for $11 beginning at 11:30 am from the outstanding Cellar Buffet. Location: Tallan Cellar Restaurant, 200 West ML King Blvd, Chattanooga, TN 37402. Note: Parking is no longer available at the Days Inn Hotel due to extensive on-going renovations at the Inn. Use on street meters or park in the rear of the Tallan Building or in one of the commercial lots nearby.

 

Professional Development units (PDUs) are available for this and most technical programs at CEC meetings.

June 25 - Steve Bunn of Shaw Industries will discuss engineering challenges for the carpet/flooring industry.

P.E. and member of the Club, described the energy saving and security features of the new EPB building, the history and current status of EPB installations around Chattanooga, and the potential for expansion of broadband fiber optic communication lines to home and businesses in the EPB service area.

Several Chattanooga Engineers Club programs are included; you may be on there too! Go to www.localwebcastnetwork.com. They no longer require registration to view the content on the website. It is now free to everyone when they visit the site. We are inviting them to return soon, so more Chattanoogans can see our great programs.

 

Speaking Opportunities! Volunteers needed to address speaker requests from elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and youth groups to visit classrooms, assemblies, and group meetings. High school student groups may schedule tours of CSTCC to visit mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical technology classes and other locations of the campus.
