Meeting - Monday, July 9 - "Will our grandchildren freeze in the dark?
Jason
Makansi, author of the best selling book, "Lights Out", will share
his views on what he calls "the coming Electricity Crisis, the Global
Economy, and What It Means to You." "Lights Out will redefine the
simmering debate on how the world can - and must - act now to head off a global
catastrophe, one that could eventually wreak even more havoc than the ongoing
oil crisis."
Jason
is president of Pearl Street Inc. He is active in national energy and power
generation/transmission forums, including the Institute of Electrical &
Electronics Engineers, the Electric Power Research Institute, the History
Channel and various technical publications.
Lunch
will be available for $11 beginning at 11:30 am, and will be from the
outstanding Cellar Buffet. Location: Tallan Cellar Restaurant, 200 West ML King
Blvd, Chattanooga, TN 37402. Guests are welcome; reservations are not required.

16 - Dr. Marilyn Brown, Professor of Public Policy at Georgia Tech confirmed
to speak on Energy Policy
July 23
- Gene Gibson, TVA's Manager of Water Supply, will provide an overview of the
current drought gripping the southeast and portions of the Tennessee Valley
region. He will explain the drought's ongoing impacts to TVA's integrated
river system operations and the 4 million people that depend on the Tennessee
River System as their source of water supply. He will outline actions being
taken by TVA to conserve water while at the same time minimizing impacts to
water supply, water quality, navigation, and recreation.

- "New Flooring Material, Products and Manufacturing Processes"
Steve
Bunn, a Chattanooga native and Staff Engineer with Shaw Industries, provided an
overview of Shaw Industries, a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway.
Shaw is one of the largest flooring companies in the world. Steve described
how engineers are used at Shaw, He also described a new engineering hardwood
flooring product and how it is being manufactured at their South Pittsburgh
plant. Samples of the new material were passed around for inspection by the
members.

Eye Productions, Inc. has made available many video recordings of events in our
community by creating the Local Webcast Network. Several Chattanooga Engineers
Club programs are included; you may be on there too! Go to
www.localwebcastnetwork.com. They no longer require registration to view the
content on the website. It is now free to everyone when they visit the site. We
are inviting them to return soon, so more Chattanoogans can see our great
programs.
Speaking
Opportunities! Volunteers needed to address speaker requests from elementary
schools, middle schools, high schools, and youth groups to visit classrooms,
assemblies, and group meetings. High school student groups may schedule tours
of CSTCC to visit mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical technology classes
