PREVIOUS WEEK PROGRAM

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

August 6 - Berny D. Ilgner, ARCADIS, showed a Jeff Barrie documentary film called "Kilowatt Ours - A Plan to Re-energize America" and led the discussion that followed.  In the film, people living around the Appalachian Mountains were interviewed as coal miners used dynamite to remove parts of the mountain in order to get to the coal. Statistics about the increasing number of children with asthma were shown.  People on the street were interviewed and they had no idea where electricity comes from or the trade offs we are making as a society by the conventional ways of transforming resources into electricity.  Jeff Barrie gave several examples of what he and his wife did to reduce their electricity consumption.  They used the savings on their electric bills to purchase Green Power Switch blocks of renewable energy electricity.  They changed light bulbs, reduced air leaks, and replaced their old refrigerator.
