 Saturday, November 17, (TOMORROW) YOU (The Chattanooga Engineers Club) are hosting the First Lego League competition, 9am – 12 noon at the UT SimCenter at Chattanooga, 701 E. M.L. King Blvd., Chattanooga, TN 37403, (423)425-5497. About 10 teams in the area, 60 teams in Tennessee and over 5000 throughout the country participate. Middle school students (and two local elementary schools this year) will compete in teams to build a robot to complete tasks and to research the theme. This year's theme is Power Puzzle, related to the many forms and uses of energy. At least six local teams will be at the Sim Center for the local competition. The competition is fast-paced and relates to an important subject, encouraging technology education. As a CEC member You are expected to attend.  Monday, November 19 - "What's Up With This Spam?"  Alan Field, SurfN Development

 What is Spam, how does it affect us, who is responsible, and why are they doing it?  Alan Field, President of SurfN Development Corporation, will answer these questions and tell us who is trying to stop Spam, how they plan to stop it, where are the challenges, why it is taking so long, and when will it stop.  Alan will also give us 10 steps we can take to prevent Spam from reaching us.  Alan is a member of the Chattanooga Engineers' Club.  SurfN Development provides seamless software systems for business operations.  November 26 – “Plans for deploying a hydrogen powered fuel cell bus for the UTC campus.”  Mark Hairr and Dan Simpson

 December 3 -"Planning and Design of Hurricane Flood Protection for the Inner Harbor Navigation Chanel which includes St Bernard and New Orleans Parishes.” Maurice Bandy of ARCADIS. His presentation will include the results of studies to provide 100 year hurricane protection to these areas of New Orleans by 2011.  The presentation will include results of studies to provide Interim protection.  

 December 10 – “Intelligent Transportation Systems.” Kirk Shore confirmed to explain and describe CARTA's plans for deployment in Chattanooga

 LAST MEETING -   November 5 - Bob Hay spoke on the physical and chemical properties of Hydrogen, and related some of the necessary design considerations for planning a hydrogen-fueled vehicle filling station. The options include compressed gas and cryogenic (liquid) storage and delivery systems. Both types have engineering and consumer implications. Fuel cells and internal combustion options for vehicles are being tested, but all H2 powered vehicles will need safe, convenient refueling stations. UTC is considering installing one of the first refueling stations for a proposed hydrogen powered shuttle bus on the campus of UTC.

Wed., November 28th - CTC (Chattanooga Technology Council) will hear Commissioner Matt Kisber of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development.  He will talk about leveraging Tennessee's technological resources to attract technology-based businesses and encourage entrepreneurial growth.

Thurs., Dec. 6 - ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers) will hear a presentation on architecture and sustainable building design.  Details about the meeting should be posted on their website in the near future.
