 LAST WEEK’S MEETING -

December 3 - Kirk Shore of Cha. Regional Transportation Authority gave an overview of the Intelligent Transportation System being developed and implemented on Chattanooga buses. Global positioning and wireless communications are being used to track bus locations, performance, and ridership to enhance the effectiveness of the regional bus system. The buses are being outfitted with wireless internet for riders, signs giving bus locations and real-time schedules at major stops on large display boards, and enhanced monitoring of bus engines for maintenance and dispatchability. The technical complexity of the systems are offset by the increased ridership, reduced pollution, and improved traffic flow.
