January 7, 2008 -"Nuclear Renaissance - The Westinghouse AP1000 Power Plant".  Jim Schwall, Principal Engineer at Westinghouse Electric Co. will present the Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear plant and discuss the nuclear renaissance.
While the world waits for long-term solutions to future energy needs and environmental concerns, the nuclear industry is preparing for and, if fact, beginning the leading edge of a renaissance.  Westinghouse Electric Company has hired approximately 2000 employees in the past 5 years, some of these local, to meet the demands for current and future nuclear power.  The most significant portion of this new work will focus on the AP1000, Westinghouse's entry into the Generation III+ market.  The AP1000 represents technology for today.  Design simplification eliminates components and reduces costs.  The AP1000 design makes significant use of passive safety systems.  The AP1000 achieved NRC Design Certification on December 30, 2005.

Lunch will be available for $11 beginning at 11:30 am, and will be from the outstanding Cellar Buffet. Location: Tallan Cellar Restaurant, 200 West ML King Blvd, Chattanooga, TN 37402.
