FUTURE MEETINGS

May 12, 2008 - A car running on paper?  The final 2008 Capstone Design presentation by a UTC student team will include converting waste paper to ethanol, hence the term PAPERNOL (See: http://chem.engr.utc.edu/ench430/2008/Teams/100/).

May 21, 2008 – Wednesday – EPB, 7th Floor Auditorium.  There will be a Joint meeting with the Chattanooga Technology Council (CTC).  We will have presentations from 2008 Early Innovator Award finalists (Carta, Cushion by Design, Nanochromatics, and Utiliflex).  See www.chatc.org .  The following is an example of these innovations:

CARTA is deploying an Intelligent Transportation System to improve safety, efficiency, and effectiveness through enhanced information for local transit riders. System features and service innovations include new ticket vending machines, automatic vehicle location and computer-aided dispatch, digital information displays, and free wi-fi Internet connectivity on every bus in the fleet -- a documented national "first." Chattanooga’s ITS program has been selected by the Federal Transit Administration for evaluation and publication to the municipal transit industry based upon the strength of its design and compliance with national ITS architecture.

May 26, 2008 – Memorial Day – No meeting.

LAST MEETING

April 28, 2008 - Two of the 2008 Kruesi Award Finalists, Douglas Dodd of EnWaste Recovery Systems and Brent Boxall of TR Automation gave presentations.  EnWaste Recovery Systems has created a patented filtration system to address the healthcare industry's need to recover silver and other heavy metals from the photo-chemical process in rediology departments.  The system not only allows the silver to be captur ed and recycled but also neutralizes and captures heavy metals, preventing contamination of the water system.  Sentinel is the first and only artificially intelligent boat that can perform in a variety of high-demand, real life situations - such as during storms and at night - without human risk or intervention.  TR Automation, the 2008 Kruesi Award winner, has developed a revolutionary approach to robotic work station manufacturing, called SuperCell, which allows for greater productivity.  We saw a video of the SuperCell running using RobotStudio.
