The Nuclear Renaissance and Chattanooga - The Reemergence of Chattanooga as a Leader in Nuclear Science and Technology.

The reemergence of nuclear energy has brought both challenges and opportunities to the Tennessee Valley.  In response, members of local industries with ties to nuclear science and technology have come together to revitalize the Chattanooga section of the American Nuclear Society (ANS).  Partnering with local businesses and other organizations with similar interests, the Chattanooga Section of ANS will be working to ensure the reemergence of Chattanooga as a leader in Nuclear Science and Technology.

This occasion not only served as the official kickoff of the Chattanooga Section of ANS but also as an opportunity for students and professionals to learn more about how nuclear science and technology affect the lives of those in the valley.  In addition to the introduction of this new initiative, a panel of representatives from various industries provided insight into the diverse opportunities available to those interested in the role of nuclear science and technology in Chattanooga.

The Introduction was made by Zackary Rad of TVA.  Mayor Ron Littlefield commented on common interests between Europe and Chattanooga in the Renaissance of nuclear energy.  Bill Campbell, Chief Nuclear Officer & Executive VP, TVA spoke on  ANS and the Young Professional.  The panel discussion was moderated by Jan Ivey, Manager, Nuclear Component Engineering, Westinghouse.  Panelists included David Howell, VP of Field Services, Westinghouse Electric Co., Stephane Cai, General Manager, Nuclear Expansion, Alstom Power, Sherrell R. Greene, Director, ORNL Nuclear Technology Programs and Dr. Pradeep Jacob, Erlanger Health System and Andrea Sterdis, Manager, Nuclear Licensing & Industry Affairs, TVA.  Closing Comments were by Dr. Phil Kazemersky.
