NEXT MEETING
"Greening Your Home and Business" - the presentation explores practical approaches as well as new and existing technologies and materials to improve the energy performance of a home or business to reduce utility bills and overall energy consumption. Allan teaches green construction and industrial technology classes as well as other energy efficient construction programs at Cleveland State.

FUTURE MEETINGS
greenMARK COLLABORATIVE's team member Bill Drewery of Veolia Energy will speak on their capabilities to provide energy, environmental, waste treatment and transportation services regionally.  This is a follow-up to the Aug. 11 program "Prairie Wind" and "Tennessee Treasures" (Mark Schwartz and Rod Thompson).  Approx. 14 guests will be in attendance.

Dec. 15 - Extending the smart-grid: benefits of electric sub-metering for large commercial users. Joe Gordon of UtiliFlex will speak on the concept of how large commercial and industrial customers can use sub-metering to better manage cost, power quality, and conserve energy.

Professional Development Hours (PDH) are available for most meetings.

LAST MEETING
Nov. 24 - UTC engineering students provided overviews of four of the five Capstone design projects for this academic year. These Capstone projects are plans for an Intermodal Transit Center (ITC), a "smart" shopping cart, an off road vehicle that will compete in the SAE Mini Baja, the design of a hydrogen fueling station, and plans to convert a Saturn Vue to run on hydrogen while retaining the capability of running on gasoline or ethanol.

 

John Ozbeck presented a summary of the research future plans for the preliminary design of a hydrogen refueling station for the University.  Byrce Evans represented the ITC (Intermodal Transit Center) Team.  Megan Miller, Benjamin Klingler and Roger LeMond represented the Mini Baja team.

Dick Schults has been a full member of the CEC since 1995.  He is a Consulting Engineer living in Ringgold, Georgia.  Dick has a BSEE degree from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Michigan State University.  He has been a member of the American Society for Quality Control (ASQ) since 1958 and a Professional Engineer (PE) since 1954.  Ralph Boroughs is a new full member of the CEC.  He is a Project Manager in Tennessee Valley Authority's Office of Environment and Research.  He lives in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Ralph has a BS in Physics from Furman University and an MS in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering from Vanderbilt University.

ITEMS OF INTEREST

The local Lego practice was a big success and Tom Tolar at Channel 3 was a gracious host.  They gave tours of the station for family members during some of the practice rounds.
