NEXT MEETING

Dec. 15, Monday, Noon - Extending the smart-grid: benefits of electric sub-metering for large commercial users. Joe Gordon of UtiliFlex will speak on the concept of how large commercial and industrial customers can use sub-metering to better manage cost, power quality, and conserve energy.

FUTURE MEETINGS
After Dec. 15, the next CEC meeting will be in January 2009.

LAST MEETING
Dec. 8 - Bill Drewery of Veolia Energy, a greenMARK COLLABORATIVE team member, spoke on their capabilities to provide energy, environmental, waste treatment and transportation services regionally.  Veolia Energy is a $48 billion company with 300,000 employees.  The company converts waste to energy (Atlantic Station, Dream Works).

As a follow-up to the Aug. 11 program "Prairie Wind" and "Tennessee Treasures", Mark Schwartz and Rod Thompson also spoke.  A geothermal installation can pay for itself in 8 years.  Waste from a heat pump can be used for water heating.  Wind turbines in Texas often are shut down by the utility because the energy produced is intermittent and cannot be stored.

ITEMS OF INTEREST

There are two important items of CEC business for which your feedback is requested.  Please let one of the officers know of your opinion:

1. The CEC is currently spending more than it is taking in.  Should dues be increased to $60 for members and $30 for retirees/students (from the current $50/$25)?  [Yes or No]

2. Would you attend more CEC meetings if they were held in a different location with a lunch cost lower than the current $14? [Yes or No]

The meeting location of the CEC is the Chattanooga Convention Center, 1 Carter Plaza. http://www.chattconvention.org/specifications.htm  Professional Development Hours (PDH) are available for most meetings.
